That's the eternal struggle Ryo faces as soon once she steps back on this
cursed island her mother warned her never to return to.
As a member of the Kizuki family, she's treated as royalty on the island
thanks to her relation to Hotaruka and the other members who still reside and
preside over the island.
Theirs is a sordid lot however, worshiping a puppet God who's constantly being
infused with the sinews of women killed right after orgasming in order to give
it life and mobility.
The hilarious part is that the sinews rot just like they would in any dead
body, so they have to constantly keep killing more women to re-infuse it with
fresh sinews.
Not a very practical method to be sure.
Review: Hotaruko (Crimson Climax)
As Crimson Climax progresses, we see Ryo constantly witnessing these strange
acts of human sacrifice and sexual promiscuity, but she's overcome by a
distinct feeling of arousal and always seems to pass out and wake up in her
bed, making her think it was all just a dream.
Unfortunately, by the time she starts putting the pieces together, like how
the people she sees killed are no longer around, her time to escape is quickly
fading.
The longer she stays, the more the blood of those who're killed cause the
flowers on the island to bloom, releasing a powerful aphrodisiac that's not
only making Ryo one horny girl, but it's slowly putting her under the control
of their mysterious leader, Master Mizuno.
Time will only tell if she still has the mental fortitude to fight against the
island, or if she's already too far gone in the land of lust and perversion.
It's a rather interesting setup with all the tomfoolery going on and the
mystery of just who, or what, Master Mizuno is and what they're trying to
achieve by keeping him alive.
Plus there's the added bonus, for those of you who take a shine to violence
and blood, of Crimson Climax being very graphic in that respect.
Between limbs flying through the air, blood explosions, people being eaten
alive and an underwater mass grave, there's a little something for everyone. Of course we can't forget about the most important part, the sex scenes.
While not as prevalent as one may like, given more of a story focus here,
those we do get are rather well done.
There's a mess of lesbian scenes between all manner of girls, a specially made
double dildo bondage scene, and a lot of regular sex via the main caretaker
and liaison to Master Mizuno.
He's the one who brings all these women to ecstasy before stabbing them in the
chest with a sword and harvesting out their sinews. He's a great guy once you get to know him.
Adding to the quality of the sex scenes, aside from their slightly perverse
nature, is just how sexy and sweet the girls are. With about five of them taking center stage throughout the three episodes,
none should disappoint.
The real problem with the release is that the details are really not as strong
as they could have been, especially with the quality of the animation work and
backgrounds.
If they could have made the naughty bits naughtier I'd probably be watching
the OVA again right now rather than writing this review.
It's always nice when a title like this gives you an English dub that isn't
too bad, so you can keep your eyes trained on all the nasty, gory, and
titillating events happening with a delirious smile on your face.
Miscellanies: Crimson Climax
Crimson Climax was originally released on a single DVD with all three
episodes, but has since been discontinued and is now being released on two
