Once there was a heavenly creature called tennyo who came down to earth to
bathe. While she was bathing, a fisherman accidentally stumbled upon the scene and
was immediately mesmerized her beauty.
Then he saw the tennyo's robe and took it as a remembrance. But without her robe, the tennyo couldn't go back to heaven... and so she
pleaded with the fisherman to give back her robe.
The fisherman didn't heed her please, and instead hid her robe and forced her
to live with him and become his wife.
The tennyo, whose name was Ceres, despised the fisherman so much that she
vowed to avenge herself.
Ceres would finish off the fisherman's every descendant by reincarnating
herself until she could have her robe back and return to heaven. Thus, for every generation, Ceres is reincarnated and fully personified when a
girl in the family turns sixteen.
On their sixteenth birthday, twin siblings Aya and Aki Mikage's life turns
upside down. Aya is the heir to the power of Ceres, and the entire Mikage family wants her
dead...
Ayashi no Ceres Anime Review
With just one look, you can instantly tell that Ayashi no Ceres anime is done by the
famous Yuu Watase (of "Fushigi Yuugi" fame). And if you're like most people, just that alone is enough to tell you that
this is going to be one good series.
The best thing about Ayashi no Ceres review is definitely the storyline (see
synopsis). It's not very often you find an anime where the entire family is against you
(excluding twin brother Aki), and it gets really involving.
People in this series would fall in love with just one look or one kiss...
which is quite similar to the way that romance is portrayed in "Fushigi
Yuugi".
The characters are pretty cool. Touya strikes me as an evil red-haired version of FY's Tamahome and Aya shares
a few of FY's Miaka's features. There are also comedians on board in the person of Yuuhi and Mrs. Q.
The art
and animation are excellent, and even better than FY's. There's nothing drastically different though, and Yuu Watase's overall visual
style remains very much identifiable.
A bit of blood is spilt in this series, and there's also a touch of gore (like
a close-up shot of someone getting shot in the head).
The soundtrack is something to look forward to, and the ending theme kicks
ass!
The English dubbing is okay, but Aya's voice is a little too whiney (she has
the same dub actress as Meifon Li of "Angel Links").
I noticed a few things that were probably never spoken in the original
Japanese version, such as Mrs. Q saying that she resembles "Britney Spears"
and "Madonna".
Overall if you're looking for a good mix of various elements, Ceres is the one
for you!
Miscellanies: Ayashi no Ceres
Yuu Watase fans who are looking for another superb saga in the tradition of
"Fushigi Yuugi" will want to check this out. It spans 26 episodes, which is half of FY's length.
