A "patapi" is a cute mechanical creature which is like a cyber pet. It can eat, sleep, play, and even help out its owners with some stuff.
When Hibari Hanakoganei receives a patapi from a prince in her dreams, she is
thrilled and names it "Densuke".
When mysterious forces try to steal Densuke, Hibari discovers that Densuke is
not just an ordinary patapi.
Densuke has magical powers that allows it to transform into a powerful
cyber-fighter who looks like Hibari.
Hibari's friends also receive similar patapis, and together they form the
Cyber Team in Akihabara.
Review: Cyber Team in Akihabara (Akihabara Dennou-gumi)
When I saw the first few episodes of Cyber Team in Akihabara, it struck me as
some kind of cross between Sailormoon and Bubblegum Crisis.
The Cyber Team in Akihabara anime girls each have a patapi.
These patapis magically transform into the
splitting image of their owners (but wearing Bubblegum Crisis type hardsuits)
when fighting the enemies.
In the later episodes, a couple of girls attain the ultimate synchronization
with their patapis. This enabled the girls themselves to transform into hardsuit mode and sort of
merge with their patapis.
Cyber Team in Akihabara review surprised me with the depth of its plot. Cyber Team Akihabara's storyline is rooted in an
ancient organization known as Rosenkreuz.
The Rosenkreuz wants to reform the world to their ideal. For centuries, the
Rosenkreuz had worked in secret. But the girls haven't an inkling of Rosenkreuz's existence, and how big a part
it plays in their lives.
This causes a lot of plot twists, and some of the concepts presented border on
the philosophical realm.
Character development is sufficient. Even the "villains" are given attention,
allowing viewers to empathize with their plight.
The thing is, all the main players in Cyber Team in Akihabara thinks that what he/she is doing is
for the betterment of the world.
The art and animation are generally cutesy in style. But after transformation, the girls in hardsuits get voluptuous bodies that
seem older than their original form (they look like kids prior to
transforming).
All the female villains are extremely well-endowed. They seem just about ready to burst from their already revealing outfits.
Another nice thing about Cyber Team in Akihabara is the music -- very catchy. There are definitely some good songs in the soundtrack. I especially like the
ending theme.
Although Cyber Team in Akihabara isn't really what I'd consider fabulous, I have to give it plus
points for innovation and its fairly unique approach to the magical girl
genre.
