El Hazard: The Alternative World - Anime Review

El Hazard: The Alternative World Anime Review

It looks like things are finally well and good in the world of El Hazard.

Miz and Mr. Fujisawa are married at last, and the time has come to usher in Miz's replacement as the Priestess of Water -- a cute young woman named Qawoor Towles.

Meanwhile, Makoto continues searching for a way to find Ifurita and go back to his home world... Nanami is busy with her thriving restaurant business... Alielle and Fatora are still trying to seduce the girls they like.

Trouble starts when a mysterious contraption Makoto had been studying inadvertently sends the whole gang off to another world called Creteria.

But the Eye of God seems to be in Creteria as well, and if Makoto and company don't do anything about it, it could be the end of everything this time.

Review: El Hazard: The Alternative World

El Hazard: The Alternative World picks up where El Hazard 2 leaves off.

Again, this isn't a continuation of the original El Hazard: The Magnificent World, but a filler series which shows us what happened during the time Makoto and Ifurita were separated.

El Hazard: The Alternative World

As is the case with El Hazard 2, you need to have watched the original El Hazard in order to cope up with everything that unfolds.

New characters are introduced and added to the existing pool -- there's Qawoor, the new water priestess (yet another additional gal attracted to our dear Makoto), and Parnasse, Alielle's girl-crazy brother.

Plot-wise, it's typical El Hazard. You get dimensional travel, magic, action, romance, humor, and some degree of eroticism. Pacing is good, and there are a lot of moments that'll tickle your funny bone.

Quite a bit of suggestive scenes and dialogue are present (especially where the lesbian characters are concerned).

Although still not as great as El Hazard 1, El Hazard: The Alternative World is markedly more entertaining than El Hazard 2.

The art and animation are excellent, and I didn't find anything amiss in the visuals.

Needless to say, the English dubbing is exceptional (as you basically have the same group of voices from the past El Hazards).

Since there's nothing really wrong with this series, you may be wondering why I didn't give it a perfect rating.

Well, it's just that I find the dimensional travel / ultimate weapon storyline redundant and overused throughout all the El Hazard series that have been released.

El Hazard: The Alternative World

I can't help but feel all the El Hazards that followed the original are but rehashes of the same basic theme... nicely done as they are.

Miscellanies: El Hazard: The Alternative World

Makoto seems to have a preference for blue-haired girls.
