Ran is a boy who lives in an earth that is totally unlike the planet we know
now. Due to man's abuse, everything is dry and barren, and water is scarce. Aliens known as Rodo now rule the earth with an iron fist, while a rebel group
called Hazzard tries to defy them.
Ran wants to avenge his mother's death and help overthrow Rodo, so he joins
Hazzard. In the ranks of Hazzard, Ran meets a pretty girl named Aira. Aira seems to have some strange telepathic abilities, and pretty soon, she is
kidnapped.
As Ran ventures to rescue Aira, he learns some things about his roots, and
ultimately the secret behind Rodo.
Green Legend Ran Anime Review
Green Legend Ran paints a bleak picture of mankind's future -- the earth is so
trashed that people don't even have a decent water supply.
The main characters are very young, and the seriousness of the situations
they're in contrast greatly with their youth. The hero, Ran, is quite difficult to like. He's brash, and he's got a foul
mouth.
I was not particularly attracted to any of the supporting characters either. On the positive side, Green Legend Ran's plot is unpredictable and
thought-provoking.
Pacing is good, and the action sequences are done quite
well. Be warned that there are also a few gory and sadistic scenes.
The artwork is on the simplistic side. The characters look very plain, unlike your usual colorful and pretty-looking
anime characters.
The English dubbing is done well, but the Japanese language version is easier
on the ears. All in all, Green Legend Ran has a lot of depth and makes for intelligent
viewing.
I just find it too dreary for my tastes, and as one of my friends would say,
it's just not my cuppa.
Miscellanies: Green Legend Ran
Green Legend Ran is among the first batch of anime released on DVD in the US,
and is one of the first anime DVDs I've ever bought.
