Ayaka Kisaragi heads Phantom Quest Corporation, a company that specializes in
dealing with supernatural disturbances. Ayaka and her team hunt vampires,
exorcise ghosts, chase werewolves, and investigate weird occurrences. Helping
them out is assistant police inspector Karino, who also seems to be
romantically interested in Ayaka.
The problem is that Ayaka's lavish spending is constantly depleting the
company's dwindling finances. Will the Phantom Quest Corporation live to see
another day?
Review: Phantom Quest Corp
Phantom Quest Corporation is a small collection (four episodes to be exact) of
various supernatural adventures. Each episode can stand on its own, but
viewing them all will provide more depth to the characters and the series.
Phantom Quest Corporation's overall concept is similar to Ghostbusters, and
the treatment of the situations is very light despite the dark theme. It has
its funny moments (there aren't many though), mainly because of the
lead character Ayaka's quirky personality. She wants the business to succeed,
but she can't stop her impulsive shopping urges, or her passion for drinking
and karaoke. Ayaka and the gang also have some very interesting gadgets and
abilities.
The art and animation are basically okay, but the way the characters are drawn
is inconsistent at times. Sometimes the faces look pudgy, sometimes they look
fine.
The English dubbing is quite nicely done. I also love the music video
introduction, and it was actually what made me buy the video. All in all this
is an average title -- it's nothing really special but it's not bad either.
Miscellanies: Phantom Quest Corp
Phantom Quest Corporation has a similar concept to the anime TV series "Ghost Sweeper Mikami", but the latter is funnier and more entertaining.
