Blood Royale - Anime Review

One of the few hentai titles I've seen to bring a pirate into the mix, Blood Royale chronicles the slave training of two princesses who're none too pleased about their predicament.

Blood Royale

Princess Milte and Sakuya have been kidnapped and taken to a shipwrecked sailor, aptly named the One Eyed Devil, who's decided to take on their training while his ship is unable to sail.

At first both Milte and Sakuya fight against his attempts to turn them into submissive sex loving fiends, but after experiencing the joy of going to the "land of dreams" Milte finds she just wants to experience more and more pleasure.

She has a good reason though, for while she is a princess, in her country princesses are used as sacrifices in preparation for war, and thus she sees this as an opportunity to escape from her previous fate.

That, however, is not a similar circumstance for Sakuya, who's focusing all her efforts on escaping rather than resigning herself to the life being thrust upon her.

As admirable a goal as that may be, one should never underestimate a pirate, let alone one known as the One Eyed Devil. She's determined to learn that the hard way though, and after a failed escape attempt she certainly does. It's not so much her attempt that vexes him, that's an understandable reaction to her situation.

The problem's that she tried to save her own skin without taking Milte along with her. Thus, given her selfishness, he decides to give her two options. She can either eat Milte's excrement and all will be forgiven, or she can refuse and Milte will be killed by one of his special, tentacle laden beasts who just love themselves some ladies.

If nothing else, at least it's so poorly detailed that one can only find it so offensive. I suppose that's one plus of having a lack of quality, it's just too bad when it haunts you through the entire release.

That's just how it goes with a anime title like Blood Royale; you have to find enjoyment in aspects aside from the technicals, which are lacking in almost every sense.

That may come, in part, from the octopus that regularly makes an appearance to sexually molest these poor girls. If that's not your style you may enjoy the escalation in sexual acts as the series progresses and the One Eyed Devil continues to train their bodies for all manner of insidious acts.

Or you may even enjoy the discussions between Milte and Sakuya about their current situation, past lives, and all manner of sexual topics as the episodes progress.

None of it is terribly impressive, but in an overall sense it does seem as though the sum is greater than its parts.

Sure, they often have nothing more than black backgrounds and endless shots of stained glass or a wall of masks, but it just adds to the artsy feel of it all. Undoubtedly though, what saves Blood Royale is twofold.

First, credit has to be given to the One Eyed Devil himself, who adds a real badass quality that makes him a joy to watch as he subjugates these women.

The second saving grace is the ending, which gives us an unexpectedly happy conclusion in the face of two episodes of slave training.

You can pretty much kill those pluses if you watch it English dubbed however, so make sure to avoid that misstep.

Watching Blood Royale anime is akin to watching a college level art film that was created with basically no budget and still somehow manages to shine through, even if just barely.

I can't defend its animation, background quality or visual direction, but in spite of all that there's still something unique about it that keeps it from being a total waste. That is, as long as you can take its absurdity.

Miscellanies: Blood Royale

I wonder how one goes about training an octopus to sexually molest women?
