Slayers Try | Anime Review

Slayers Try

Lina, Gourry, Zelgadis, Amelia, and Xellos find themselves tangled in a prophecy that means they could save the world... unless they screw up.

The enemies are after the five weapons of light, and Gourry just happens to own one of them! Now Gourry is not about to part with his sword, but pretty soon they can't tell just who the good guys and the bad guys are!

Review: Slayers Try

When I saw Slayers Try anime, I wanted to put an axe through the TV. It's very, very bad. Reviewing it makes it hard not to swear. It's almost as if someone decided to make Slayers and then came up with half a plot, got bored, and thought no one would notice the plot holes or bad filler episodes.

There aren't more than four jokes that are true Slayers quality. Characterization is terrible. The newcomers seem like they were designed in about a minute. They are badly done -- too comical even for Slayers, with very little if no personalities. The bad guys can't even count. They say they have one or two weapons (when they have one) and that they need either one or two, and subsequently can't make up their minds.

The original characters aren't what they used to be either. Whatever complex and original personality they had throughout the last two series is wiped clean, and they are about as two-dimensional as printer paper.

Lina isn't as fiery or interesting. Xellos isn't the fun-loving and manipulating person that he was, and Zelgadis seems to have lost his wits and his concern about his non-human appearance.

The music isn't even fitting for the series. It would have been okay for something like "Sailor Moon" or "Fushigi Yuugi", but as it is, it's too depressing. It does not reflect the generally happy or bouncy mood of Slayers. In the end, it seemed like the creator(s) finally ran out of ideas but had four episodes left to make, so they decided to talk tediously to the enemy... boring him into submission.

Miscellanies: Slayers Try

The soundtrack even sucks. Just download Waru Waru Valgaav's image song off the web and copy it, nothing else is worth bothering with.
